What She Wants

December 9th, 2008

There’s only 2 more weeks left for the pre-holiday shopping season and if you haven’t gotten anything for the woman of the house then you need to get on your job very quickly.  If there’s anything else I know besides fashion, it’s Women (trust me on this one, I know Women!).  When it comes to getting your lady a gift there are two important tips to remember:

1. Think about what you think she may want; not what you want her to have.  Sure she likes lingerie, but she can buy that for herself as a gift to you.

and

2. Quantity before Quality. Didn’t get this one?  Women love a diamond necklace and or earrings, but adore being showered with gifts.  Get her a bag full of the simple things she likes along with that big gift you know she wanted.

Check out the items below, this might get the shopping-for-her blood flowing.

Essential of the Week – The Loafer

September 25th, 2008

It is that time again… Yes Loafer time.  Loafers aka “The Penny Loafers” are a must have during every Fall/Winter season.  They’re made of leather and are often worn in formal situations. They’re low, leather step-in shoes usually with moccasin construction and broad flat heels. They first appeared in the mid 1930s and have no shoelaces or buckles.  Penny Loafers, Tassel Loafers and the “Kiltie” variation, and even the double combination the “Kiltie Tassel Loafers” are all becoming accepted as semi-formal, but lace up shoes (wingtips, cap toe, or solid piece leathers) are still required for formal occasions.

I’ve been on the prowl for the perfect pair since mid summer and finally found the right pair for me, but throughout my search I found a few pairs that almost put my venture to a holt.  Look below, but look with caution.  You may want to replace the ole faithfuls with a pair of these after reading this.

As I was purusing through SoHo yesterday, somehow I ended up in the Tretorn Shop on Spring Street. So I decided to have a look around the Ole’ Swedish Shop and found this beauty (see Below). Looks comfortable, feels soft, but I didn’t get them because apparently there isn’t anyone in Sweden that wears a size 14. So I thought I’d live vicariously through my fellas, enjoy! Essential of the Week – Corduroy Pants

August 26th, 2008

It’s time to give your denim time to breathe and get some Cords. Corduroy is a comfortable and durable cloth. The material is also used in the construction of (sport) jackets and shirts. The width of the cord is commonly referred to as the size of the wale. The lower the “wale” number, the thicker the width of the wale (i.e., 4-wale is much thicker than 11-wale). Wide wale is more commonly found on trousers; medium, narrow, and fine wale fabrics are usually found in garments used above the waist. In the past, clothes made from corduroy are considered casual and are usually favored in colder climates, but you know fashion; its all about the personality. Below is a list of some great fitting trousers.

Washed Button-down Shirt – Summer Essential of the Week

July 9th, 2008

Man, there’s nothing more comfortable to wear towards the end of the Summer season than a pre washed button-down (other than a summer cashmere sweater, but that’s a whole nother post). This week I chose the Pre-washed button down because its classic and casual and feel good on the weekends and on those days you don’t want to wrap on the tie. Below are a few shirts I checked out while looking for the right fit. Throw it on with some jeans tucked out by day, and tuck them in and throw on a jacket by night.

J. Crew
A signature collection for naval wear. Looking for a nice shirt at the last second for a beach party? Walk into any J. Crew store and in 5 mins flat and walk right out with what you came for. They have a great full selection of worn-in clothing from blazers and Polo’s to trousers to cut off chino’s. Not to mention the right accessories to match. The shirts have a great slim fit with a smidgen of extra room in the chest area for you bench pressers. I’d even go as far to say grab a linen shirt while your at it.

Ralph Lauren
What can I say if you want great quality shirt at a good price R.L. is the collection you can depend on. Another plus is that R.L. Has big sizes.

Treat Kasteel Cru avec délicatesse

June 21st, 2008

Last weekend I stopped at this Luz a Nuevo Latino Resturaunt in Brooklyn and was highly reccomended by one of the waitresses try a French beer called Kasteel Cru, I couldn’t resist, so I tried it. I had a sip and it was light, clean and crispy. I called the waitress over and said to her “this isn’t beer! It tastes like champagne.” Then she mentioned to me that Kasteel Cru ferments Champagne Yeast into their brew which gives it a well balanced, crisp and elegant taste that anyone who appreciates fine dining will enjoy. I think I’m in love…

Brief info:
Brewed with water from les Vosges Mountains in Alsace, malted barley, choicest hops, and the extraordinary, inventive addition of Champagne yeast fermentation, Kasteel Cru is a deliciously crafted lager which combines strength with a lightness of touch. Perfectly inspired by the quest to capture the uniquely rich and diverse characteristics of France’s ‘petit jardin’ in a fine lager, the satisfying reward of a great beer body is introduced by the brightest, lively head and finished with the crisp, clean promise of more to come.

Altogether, Kasteel Cru adds a sparkle to the tradition of fine brewing.

The first taste delivers an immediate ‘zing’ from the carbonation, and a natural acidity is created by the special yeast during fermentation. This enhances the refreshing and moreish character of the beer. The low bitterness ensures that the mouth-feel is light; with a sweet-sour balance in the acidity, with little or no astringency – and a finish that is clean and crisp.
